Placing a foundation and making a pier for the FSQ-DDM setup.

After receiving my ASA DDM85 i have been using the mount on my Losmandy G-11 tripod. A stable and tough tripod, but with the polar procedure of the DDM85 it will be more convinient to use a permanent setup.

My father and I decided to work on a plan to make a more stable and permanent platform, remote control of the setup was an important goal to keep in mind. After some thinking we came up with a 1x1x0.5 meter concrete foundation, that is a lot of concrete but better be sure! For the pier we took a 125mm wide pipe with a 8mm wall thickness welded to a 10mm thick steelplate.

After pooring the concrete and placing the pier i added a workstation in the barn to remote control the setup, this was done so that when my reserved place on a remote location would become availble that i could copy the setup that i've been testing at home.

Started digging.

We started to dig in the garden first to see what we we able to place.

Base for the foundation.

Before pooring the concrete we placed a 1x1x0.5 meter wooden box in the ground and added a 50mm PVC pipe for the cabling.

Cutting of the pier

Our local mechenical workshop had all the metal in stock that we needed to manufacture the pier.
