Visiting Dany Cardoen and his observatory including a 1 meter telescope!

During our stay in Verclause where Karel Teuwen his remote observatory is located (ROSA Remote), we decided to pay a visit to Dany Cardoen in Puimichel.

Dany is known for his telescope making, a few of the telescopes he made are 16'', 20'' and a 41'' telescopes. Currently his observatory households the 41'' Ritchey-Chretien telescope that he manufactured himself.

After meeting Dany he was kind enough to show us his workshop where at that moment he was working on several mirrors for new telescopes. He showed us all the processes and all the equipment he used to manufacture the mirrors, i was very interested in these processes as i have never seen them before in real life.

After the tour through his workshop, Dany took us to his own observatory with an amazing 1 meter ( 41 inches ) telescope! This is by far the biggest amateur astronomer telescope i've ever seen! Dany offered us to take a look at Venus, yes during daytime! This must have been my best view of Venus ever.

I'm very glad that i met Dany, he has an amazing personality, a lot of knowledge and experience within astronomy and telescope making.

Dany his observatory.

The observatory is located on a mountain with a 360 degree field of view without any obstructions.

The telescope pointing to zenit.

It is just an amazing view to see the 1 meter telescope, i wish i had this in my backyard!

Me with Karel Teuwen.

Karel is a person who i admire a lot, i think he is one of the best astrophotographers in the world.
I feel honered to know him and this picture displays a great memorable moment!
